There has long been a dearth of medical professionals able to work with transgender children, but in recent years, more and more clinics have opened to help these kids and their families. Supporters of these kinds of clinics argue that children who consistently and persistently identify as trans should be given the appropriate resources, while detractors believe that they may be encouraging kids to make decisions about their gender identity at too young an age. With long-term studies on what happens to children who transition at a young age yet to be completed, the lack of consensus may remain for some time still.
